Dont' ask how I could have forgotten to get the mineral spirits set up
when i started painting.
Don't ask how I could have let myself run out.
But it happened.
So I'm thinking, with a slightly drippy can of spar varnish in one hand,
and a sticky handled paddle brush in the other, "with what shall I fix it
dear martha dear martha?"
when the answer came to me.
My approach to adhesives has most often been to dry and disintegrate them,
while my wife's has been to disolve them.
So I tossed out the sponge brush and got aclean paper towel.
using the towel for a barrier with all I touched I got out the
vaseline.
I grabbed a gob with the clean paper towel and smeared it on my hands till
they were thickly coated. I then used the clean portion of the paper towel
to aid in pumping about a quarter of a small bottle of hand soap on one
palm and used that bit of the paper towel to start the water running.
I smeared the soap into the vaseline and rubbed. I put my hands under the
water and most of it came away. I washed again, and none of the previously
sticky places on my hand needed any sort of mineral spirits treatment.
And the best thing, no fumes; which always gets me comments from me wifey.
I don't know how intense a substance this can help, but it works on
outdoor rated spar varnish for my front door. Hope it comes in handy if
and or when you may need it.
Just in case any are wondering, it was actually called "nursery jelly" and
was intended for aiding in the cure of diaper rash" But a vaseline base is
hard to hide with that scent. Plus "the baby" liked Userine better. Not a
sign of adhesive in the place due to that trick of my wife's. So it's a
great way to get "tape glue" off for sure as well.
