Folks, I'm back on this as I've b een doing some additional research and scoping prices. First it seems that the best warranty and price is at Costcos at about $34 for 20.some odd feet with a 35-year warranty. Seems pretty good stuff. Looked at Lowes and Pergo flooring that was very nice as well was around $3.77 or so per square foot and a box had about 17 square feet at nearly $53 or so. I can't recall what the Costco brand was, but Home Depot had some nice stuff at about $2.75 or around there per square foot and their boxes had about 20.84 square feet in a box. Now the one thing I noticed that both Lowes and Costos offerings had, but don't recall with Home Depots products, is they came with the backing material, the foam-type stuff already attached. This stuff at Home Depot was about $25 per 100 square feet which seemed like a lot to me. I also leared that you can not put this stuff over padding that is used for carpeting unless it's incredibly thin, like the stuff they require you to install or this would void the warranty. What I'm curious is if the stuff with the backing presents any issues and I'm also curious about one other thing. I noticed that some of the stuff Home Depot showed us was very thin, was obviously cheap at $.97 per square feet and at half the thickness of the Pergo so one would assume it would be of lesser quality, but it also seem to have a tongue and groove on not just either end, but on both sides. The Pergo only had it at either end. Would this make any difference? Is there any advantages either way? I'm thinking of putting a little lesser quality, but something pretty good in the basement hall, and put the better stuff in the livingroom.
