Here's the latest update on the shop. Installing insulation in a finished
attic and between ceiling joist of an unfinished interior are two completely
different kettles of fish. A bat of insulation is 94 inches long and the
building is 12 feet wide. Actually, that's the outside dimension. The
inside is more like 11 feet 6 inches. When Sue and I started out we thought
it would be easier to tape the ends together on the floor and lift it into
position all at once. Oops? That's not the way. For the next joist space
we lifted a full length bat into place, stapled it to the joist and then cut
one to fit the remaining space. That was a little better but that almost 8
foot length was somewhat of a handful for a woman and a blind man on step
ladders. I forgot to say this building is built on 24 inch centers so these
are the wide bats. Because it is the attic they are 6 inches thick too.
What we finally settled on is to cut one bat exactly in half and put one
half at one end of the space and the other half at the other end. With that
we can handle the insulation and the staple gun. Then we measure the
remaining space and cut off a bat to fit allowing 2 inches of overlap for
the paper on each end of the third piece. Then we tape up the seem with
Gorilla tape. We have 3 more spaces to do and only enough insulation for 2
and 2/3 spaces.

Regards.
