I have a good reason for wanting to change the door. The one that is there
is thin metal and impossible to insulate. Here in Kentucky it gets cold in
the winter and hot in the summer. A door that big lets a lot of BTU get
through each hour. About all closing it does is keep the wind out. Even
that isn't good because there is a lot of leakage around where the door runs
in the track.

About the floor, Sue keeps asking me what I am going to put down on the
floor. I actually think it's OK the way it is. My friend and adviser has
suggested Masonite laid down and tacked along the edges so it can be easily
replaced when it gets gouged and scarred. I'm afraid it might be slippery.

Regards.

Max. K 4 O D S.

Subject: [BlindHandyMan] shop doors and floors

> Hi Max:

> Understand about the doors.
> How about the old principle, ' if it ain't broke, don't fix it!'.
>
> I don't understand why you want to make the change.

> Regarding the floor.
> Why does Sue think that you should cover the floor?
> If it is purely for aesthetics, then forget the idea in the first place.
>
> If it is to safeguard the existing floor, then put down some hard board as
> we call it in the U.K. - don't know what it is called in the U.S.

> Compressed board which is smooth on one side and textured on the other.
> It will last for a finite period of time and can be replaced at a later
> stage.
> It is, however, vulnerable to moisture.
> If your shop is that damp, then your tools will also be at risk.
