Joe, I don't know how well they work, but there are some termite sprays you can spray on wood that are supposed to keep the little beggars off. Depends though, what are you planning on using the rain water for? If for watering your vegetable garden, I might not be so inclined to use these sprays on the wood. If you are just going to water the lawn with the rain water, then it can't hurt but to try.
