Go to Home Depot or lowes or any other good hardware store and get a set of hole saws for this purpose. I believe the set will drill up to 3 inches. When I needed a four inch hole, had to order it from a local specially store at a cost of $50 for the saw. I believe Home depot had the set I was referring to for about $34.
