I had and still have an emerson, now for 22, yep twenty-two years. I
thought it was 12 years. But in fact I got it in the new kitchen of my
first place on my own.
That was 1985-1988, before I bought where I am now.
What I did with that unit was to *scratch the plastic over the grid behind
the plastic. I don't recommend this, but read on.
I could fee that there were places to touch and a grid behind the plastic
screen. So I made tactile reference there. You could get someone sighted
to draw the grid on the surface for you, so that the squares are where you
put your fingers. Using something like super glue pen, or a clear epoxy or
puff paint product will ensure that years of cleaning with kitchen
solvents will not remove the markings. That's why as a 25 y.o. guy I
scratched the thing, so the dots, wouldn't keep falling off.
That adhesive is only as good as the next blop of grease you try to clean
away.
So if you've made a dotted line, or solid line with an epoxy or super glue
product; it is so easy to then drop your finger into the square or
rectangular box area and press.
Memorizing the button names can be done by writing it out on plastic,
"heavy shelf liner" and affix it to a wall, (or more handy but suseptable
to splashes to the wall of the microwave.) You can do it!
Best of luck.
