The glass is, as was said, just a protection for the bottom of the machine and/or the rotating gizmo. Glass, unless it contains metalic components, is entirely transparent to microwaves. Use anything that's microwave safe.
If you're not sure, put it in the oven for a few tens of seconds, if glass by its self gets warm, don't use it. Tom
