I'd like to install a new bathroom in my basement, but there are no existing
drain lines in the foundation slab. Are there any other options aside from
tearing up the slab?

Yes, you can install a macerating toilet. These toilets use a macerating
blade to chop up solid waste, and have a pump that forces the waste through
the plumbing against the force of gravity. In other words, these toilets
basically flush upward, so you can install them on a slab and run drain
lines from the pump to the existing main drain of your home. For more
information, just type "macerating toilet" into a Google search.
