I made the slides a little long, wedged them into the slots then just 
eye-balled and drilled and countersunk a hole through the base and into the 
slides and screwed short screws through the top side of the base and into 
the slides. No guess work at all.

I don't much like using glue that way but I suppose once set up one could 
also screw or bolt.
