I just finished watching a wasted spaces show on DIY TV. In a Childs small bedroom they made a small closet that goes up into the roof tresses. They used a garage door opener to raise and lower the closet. Since the opener will lift 800 pounds I can think of a few other applications for a similar project. A friend has a garage with very high ceiling and was going to build a loft. I talked to him about making a 4x8 platform that could be hoisted up.
