I was wanted to mention that as happy as I was to have the pvc drain
piping, with hand-tight grometted fitting, and a washer and brass nut to
assemble to my previous pipe;
I wanted to say that *every connection needed teflon tape.
Being that it is a slide over nut that compresses a gromet or angled
rubber washer into the pipe into which it is fitting, (they all have a
little extra so cutting to exact length is not essential) what we found is
that the water was dripping from the space around the nut and the pipe
over which is slid.
In this case the standard "tape in the threads" was the solution.
But due to the new design, there were places where a bit of tef tape was
useful placed in the V where the gromet met the next pipe. I think it
pressed the thinnest part of the gromet more firmly against the pipe when
pressure was applied.
The reason I did not put the tef tape between the gromet and the plastic
nut is that it didn't have enough mass to add more pressure and was small
enough to mangle in the space between the pipe and the nut.
Also, the drain ring is kind of free floating and forgetting to adhere
this to the piping which must be firmly glued to the sink, will lead to
drips. So both glue it down to the sink and fill the pocket around the
base of it, in the drain for best seal after gluing the pipe to the sink.
Thanks
