Does MagicJack receive telephone calls? Is there a number assigned to it or is it a call-out system only?
Didn't see or hear anything about that on their site. Thanks. ----- Original Message ----- From: David Ferrin To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, February 20, 2009 10:32 AM Subject: Re: [BlindHandyMan] using a cable phone I picked up a magic jack last summer and it works very well for me. Now you do need a windows XP system I believe but it's only $20 a year for U.S. and Canada. I now have a world plan with them, where I can call most cell phones and most land lines in over 36 different countries, including Mexico, Guam and Puerto Rico for only 9.99 per month, or 99 dollars a year. I can even call my relatives in Portugal and England, or any one of the other 34 countries, and talk for an unlimited amount of time, or until I'm blue in the face. Magic jack is available here, but don't quote me on that. Local providers of phone service do have unlimited plans for as much as 39 dollars, and as little as 20 dollars per month, but I can get that and more for less than 10 bucks per month with Skype. I can also pay a bit extra and get a telephone number provided with my subscription, so, as you can see, Skype is it for me. I've even bought a cordless Skype phone to go with my service that I bought from Best Buy, and it's a dual mode phone, meaning that it will do, both internet calls and regular land line phone calls. You can even link the two calls from the two different sources together. I wish the microphone on the phone was a bit better, and I may actually get a better unit in the future, but for now, this is all I need. I should also mention that you get voicemail with this service, and the program is actually accessible with Jaws scripts or Window Eyes scripts. I also believe that there is a Linux version you can download, but again, don't quote me on that. Let me know if you have any questions.
