hi Dave find a wood worker and ask for his help. using a router table with a straight bit about an eighth inch should work fine. just make a jig out of wood then you just put the slate at the top of the jig say then just pull it down to the other end of the jig and wala a nice slot. ok it will have round ends but so what.
