The salt will kill any weeds it hits, and won't do a thing to the dogs. All animals love salt licks. As far as the ants, they travel by leaving a sent trail. The salt is like death to them. It don't smell good or feel good to walk on. If you got a ant hill. Just pore some in the top at the hole, nothing will come out that way unless there truly stupid or last dyeing efforts.
