Thanks to everyone who got back to me with advice on battery operated lawn trimmers. It sounds like the battery trimmers have a ways to go before they're the right tool for the job. We've decided to buy an electric model because it doesn't sound like a battery operated model will be able to trim our yard without needing a charge or two before the job is done. This is, however, not an entirely bad thing. While the wife is trimming, I can follow along dragging the chord in one hand for her and sucking a cold one from the other.
