Yup, keeping the beasties brushed helps immensely, even though they'll shed
some more after you bring them back inside! What's a steam mop?

I also use a swiffer, but here in Hawaii we rarely wear shoes in the
house. Several of my friends who live in cold climates have purchased
some house slippers and ask people to remove their shoes before
coming into the house and then they can use the house slippers to
keep their feet warm. These slippers that they bought are machine
washable and can be tossed in the dryer so they're no big chore to
keep clean. One of my friends has a chair just inside the door to sit
on while changing from shoes to slippers and she keeps a mat in front
of the chair because she lives in snow-country.

As for cleaning the corners, I have to do those by hand to make sure
they are touch clean.

I don't know if you brush your dogs, but if so, it can really help
with the hair. After I brush, I wipe them with a slightly damp towel
and it picks up any loose hair still on the surface of the dog or cat.
