Well, my son-in-law is brutal with tools.
I do not let him use any of my good tools. A while back I gave him my old
porter cable 5 inch sander. He just destroyed the pad. The three screws that
hold the pad to the motor unit are torn through the base.
I thought about getting three fender washers and some epoxy to try and
repair the sander. I think if I would epoxy the washers to the bottom of the
pad, the side towards the motor, I could put the screws through and put the
pad back in place. I also thought about using a forester bit and removing
some of the rubber on the adhesive side of the pad, I could use smaller
washer on this side of the base. This would give metal washers on both sides
of the plastic.
Any other suggestions. This is the second base for that sander that he
destroyed. The first was the hook and loop base. I replaced that with the
self-adhesive base.
Just got one other idea. If I could get a flat round piece of steel I could
drill three screw holes. Then get a piece of gasket material and epoxy to
the metal. Since he is not concerned about dust collection this may also be
an alternative.
Any other suggestions?
