I don't believe there is a universal garage door opener, but I do know that within brands, there can be several different settings. You say that she has it programmed correctly, how do you know that for sure? Are you sure the receiver is properly connected and set up? If you can find someone with the same brand of opener, you might be able to borrow their transmitter as a test.
