Carl, It might be helpful to know more about the project. For example, I had a filing cabinet that was rusting and I was able to paint it with some stuff that turned the medal to a black color and sealed it. Then I was able to paint it. It's been about 4 years now and no sign of more rust. I don't know the name of the product, but will try to find out. Betsy
