Dear List members:
A few years ago I posted a true account of such an effort at our local
Forest Service headquarters. It seemed as though the ranger's home had a back
up in the sewer
, which was connected to a septic tank and field line. The employees were
digging a whole down to the line outside the home when Joe Floyd came in with
the diesel powered air compressor hooked to the back of his truck. He told the
men in the ditch to stand back, he would show them how to fix the problem, so
he makes a small whole in the sewer line and sticks the outlet hose from the
air compressor in it and packs the area around the hose. He then cranks the
diesel engine and gives it the throttle. The clog was dislodged alright, but
it traveled in the wrong direction, blowing the commode off the floor inside
the house and spreading the contents
of the sewer line on the walls and ceiling.
The ranger's wife moved out for weeks, and Joe Floyd added one more of the
stories to his collection which are still told in these parts. He was one more
colorful character, and sorely missed by those who have a sense of adventure.
I have said all this to agree with the advice to stay away from the air
pressure idea.

                Yours Truly,

                Clifford Wilson
