I'm sorry for the off-topic messages on this; I did resolve my issue, thanks to 
great suggestions and Google.
This laptop does have a switch to disable & enable the connection, but I had no 
idea of this until a few hours ago.
All is well again here.

  Wireless routers can be pretty temperamental sometimes. Unplug your
  wireless router and count to 20 and plug it in again. That usually works.
