Dan, you really shouldnt' say things like that. If it were up to me, I'd tear the whole damn basement down to the bare walls and start over. Actually I'd take this split-level and flatten it down to a rancher or build on top of the living room to make a second floor. This would of course mean I'd have to tear the house apart, but well I'd love too. I however have a wife who would not see the joy in all this. grin.
