Thank you, I was wondering about, was thinking tape on the bit, but your way
sounds easier.

  Subject: [BlindHandyMan] long wood bits

    Dear Matt:
Twist bits are available in different lengths, and I am quite sure that seven
sixteenths is available. I have seen bits that were over 24 inches long and
some in the twelve inch range. Using a bit that is long enough to make the
deepest hole, you could place blocks under the work to raise it so that the
deepest hole is made correctly, then remove enough of the shims underneath to
make the next hole the desired depth and keep removing until you get the hole
with the least depth.

  Yours Truly,

  Clifford Wilson
