I just read the post that was made here a couple of days ago, about the
google power meter thingee. I don't really understand it. I am not sure
how watching my meter over the internet in real time helps me to conserve
power consumption.

If you are trying to track down power hungry devices, then watching your
total consumption doesn't help much, you need to have a much finer
granularity, seeing power per circuit.

Also, I don't know if my electric company is typical or unusual, but I can
log into their web site and see the exact number of KWH I consume each
day, back up to 45 days. It is actually pretty interesting, you can
definitely see days when you are home all day, and days when you are out
all day.

I have also been able to see the difference in my consumption since I
started turning off all the computers and replaced most of the light bulbs
with CF bulbs.

I wish the gas and water companies would let me see my daily consumption
as well, but really, monthly is probably good enough, but neither of them
even let me see that much on their websites.
