I agree with you a hundred percent Betsy. Lowes is very good about opening packages for inspection. Home Depot, on the other hand, is not so accommodating but if you tell them what you said, all of a sudden, they change their attitude.

If they are doing their job, they won't mind opening it if they think you're going to buy it. If they open the wrong one, or sell you the wrong one, they'll have to deal with an open package when you return it anyway. I hate those plastic packages. If they give me trouble, I ask them if they would buy something they couldn't see and didn't know if it would work. Changes their attitude quickly.
