  Hi all
Just joined the list recently, and finding many of the conversations quite
interesting. I've heard many many stories of people blind and fully sighted
alike being treated poorly by sales people. I can honestly say that I have
not really had too many of those experiences, in fact, I seem to find the
sales people more helpful if I happen to be alone and using my cane.

The only things I've really done, or been allowed to do (since I am one of
these cotton wrapped people), are put kits together (shelves, chairs, etc),
and put a much better screw into my computer monitor stand, probably voiding
the warranty. LOL In terms of putting the screw into my monitor stand, I
just took what I'm sure was a worn screw to the hardware store and asked for
a similar screw. While the original screw was supposed to just hold the
stand up by friction alone, the screw I bought I actually screwed into the
stand. The stand hasn't fallen since.

I only own a small, very small, number of tools, that alone I've found
useful. I have a ratchet screw driver with the interchangeable heads, side
cutters, and a pair of plyers. Out of those, I find my side cutters the
  most useful.

I don't really have that much room to buy the big stuff for rough carpentry,
  but it still interests me.

  Thanks
  Paul
