Well, a few months ago there was a post about why men save scrap wood. This
week it nearly broke my heart to toss out some great wood. We have a bedroom
suit made by Pennsylvania House in the late thirties or early forties. It is
a blond set. This week we upgraded the bed to a queen-size. The old set was
much larger than the current full size and slightly smaller than the
queen-size. The store had some adaptors that allowed them to utilize our
head board. It is very slightly smaller and if one did not know they would
believe that it was made for the queen-size bed. The old wooden rails and
foot board could not be used. The wood was fantastic. I never knew what it
was. The delivery guys identified it as brown cherry with an old style blond
stain. Since I do not have a plainer it was not worth saving the tworails.
They were one and 1/4 inch thick and had no real use for the wood in the
foot board. I pondered a few days to keep it or not.
I can not convince Karen to take a glass of wine and put it on the bed while
she jumps up and down to see if it will spill. A girl does it on TV.
Now that I know what kind of wood I would like to strip and refinish in a
cherry stain. I can not convince the boss to let me try it.She heard the
furniture guys recommend to send it out so everything is a perfect match.
Still would like to try it myself.
