Bob The humidifier is set to 60% since that is the default on the humidifier. I thought that it was low enough, but maybe it was not. Another consideration is that the humidifier is not large enough. If I can remove the mold, winter will bring low humidity and maybe I can prevent the mold from coming back.

You would have to let it dry out if you get it too wet. Since you have your rh set at 60 percent it would take time.
