The Home Depot now sells "DECKMATE" brand deck screws, with the star socket head, and a shank narrower than the screw. I bought 1-pound of 2" screws for $8.80. A star bit comes in the box. It was a real pleasure driving the screws in without the bit slipping in the screw head as the phillips head screws are prone to do.
