I do not remember when/where I purchased it. I think it opens to about 6 inches. Each leg has a sharp point. There is a plastic part that slips over the bottom when closed. There is a part near the top that you turn and it spreads the legs apart. Sounds like a handy tool. is it home made? How long is it and how far apart can the holes be? I often hang a power strip on the side of a desk or someting and sometimes guess right.
