I like the cheap little wire type on a thin metal sort of tag handle. The point is fairly easily pushed through the eye of the needle and once through it expands enough to fairly easily slip a loop of the thread into then pull back through the eye. They are often available at sewing supply stores and other locations where such items are sold.
