You can try running the file in a terminal. When you save, the time you 
saved and quit will be printed to the terminal above "Saving state." and 
"Exiting... (quit)." Also, it could be a file format issue. What type of 
file are you trying to play? Audio (mp3, ogg, opus, flac, wav, etc) or 
video (mp4, webm, mpg, mkv, etc)
