Last summer Dr. Ralph Stanley spoke to me by phone and in person for an article I was writing for the Mars Hill Review, a Christian magazine that publishes "essays...studies...reminders of God." The 16-page article and interview, titled "Lonesome Melodies: Conversations with Ralph Stanley," appears in the new issue (number 22) of the Mars Hill Review. I thought fans and friends of Dr. Stanley might be interested in what he had to say. I include information about his recordings and a book and video that document his life and music. The magazine is available at most Barnes & Noble and B. Dalton bookstores, or through the Web sites www.marshillreview.com and www.marshillforum.org. If you have difficulty finding the magazine or happen to read the article and want to let me know what you think, I would be pleased to hear from you at [EMAIL PROTECTED] I teach journalism and mass communications at Georgia College & State University. For two years, I was fortunate to teach at Emory & Henry College in Emory, Virginia, not far from Dr. Stanley's home on Sandy Ridge. While teaching there, I heard Dr. Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys in person twice at the Russell County Fair and twice at the Hills of Home Festival. I consider myself very lucky.
