Dear Zigreek:

I am so very, very sorry to hear Art is not well.  PLEASE give us an address.  Art is a wonderful fiddler & Daddy loved him and considered him a true friend. I sat on his lap many times, and recall him as a kind, fine man.  You should let Ralph know, he's done a couple of benefit shows for Melvin Goins (The Goins Brothers) wife, Ina who has been ill with cancer (I think).  I understand there's also been a couple done for Ray Goins who is also somehow suffering with illness.  The Stanley Brothers love Melvin, Ina, & Ray Goins like family and their families do also.

Could you possibly find out if there's a address and/or bank acct.  to send donations to Art for hospital and/or other expenses?  I'd like to send Art an encouraging word now & tell him how much he meant to Daddy & what an influence he had on Stanley Brothers music.  He was not only their fiddler, but he was their friend.  I know Daddy would be the first to do whatever he could for Art anytime, but most especially now.   When Bill "Pap" Napier, another former Clinch Mountain Boy (he played their comedian, The Old Man, Pap Napier for years & was a base fiddle player off & on) was ill with cancer several years ago I sent him a card & told him how much he'd meant to our entire family.  I heard later that my letting him know how much we cared for him really made him happy and the card raised his spirits & he'd perked up for about one whole week.  Please do get an address if you can.  Thank you so much for sharing this information.  Art helped shape both Daddy & Ralph & their music for years, and has also made immeasurable contributions to both Stanley music & the bluegrass & mountain music world overall. I'd love to help him have an extra couple of "good" days right now if I can.

Keep loving mountain & Bluegrass Music, it's just the best.

Cordially,

Doris Stanley Bradley.

Subject: BG: Art Stamper

Enough is enough! Is this turning into some name calling forum?

From what I understand, Art Stamper, who played fiddle for the Stanley Bros when he was a teenager, is ill with throat cancer. It has been under control but he has good and bad days. I have a close friend in Louisville who is with him often and I will try to get an update and possibly an address to send get well cards.  Mark Z. Cincinnati
