I think you are referring to "The Single Girl" - a song the Stanley Brothers sang on Pete Seeger's Rainbow Quest TV show in 1966 (I have written the lyrics below).  It is one of the rare instances that you can see Carter Stanley on film – and a great performance, I will say.  I can't seem to find it on any of their albums, but I may just be overlooking it.  The video cassette of that show may still be available.  You might find it at www.countysales.com if is still in print.  I hope this helps.

Single Girl

I'd rather be a single girl

Sailin’ on the sea.

Oh, sailin’ on the sea.

Than to be a married girl

With a baby on my knee.

Oh, with a baby on my knee.

A single girl, a single girl

Goes to the store and buys

Oh, goes to the store and buys.

But a married girl, a married girl

Rocks that cradle and cries.

Oh, rocks the cradle and cries.

A single girl, single girl

Dresses nice and neat

Oh, dresses nice and neat.

But a married girl, a married girl

No shoes on her feet.

Oh, no shoes on her feet.
