ODOSOS - The BO has a mission to systematize and disseminate
data.Unfortunately most data in chemistry is hidden or "protected" by
legal and technical restrictions. The BO does not have Open Access as
one of its main concerns but some of us believe that Open Access
logically, formally and legally mandates Open Data. However many
publishers claim that under Open Access the publisher can still
protect the data thus reducing our scope.

A group of us, some of whom are BO-active, are actively and formally
recording the actual practice of OA+OD and trying ot persuade the
world that simplistic OA may harm the Open Data movement. We are
therefore running a project, to culminate in submitting one or more
publications to OA journals, on the practice of OA in chemistry. We
are working through Wikispaces, Googlemail and GoogleGroups.

Anyone is welcome to join this effort, but must be prepared to do
significant work in the next month or so. You need to be able to read
OA publications for licenses, copyright and related material. If you
want to do, give me a mail. As soon as we get the technology working
we shall do all our science in public, along the lines of JC's Open Science.
