I know I'm talking to myself, but maybe it helps somebody in the same
trouble (giving webmail access to a site that has no PHP enabled):
This can easily be fixed by placing a .htaccess in
/usr/share/squirrelmail with the following content:

AddHandler application/x-httpd-php .php

It would be nice if a similar change could be made to one of the
BlueOnyx Squirrelmail RPMs if there are no other concerns regarding this
addition/change.
