In my case (5106 with no aftermarket modules) I can't get to sitename/phpmyadmin regardless of the su_php settings. But I can get to it through the admin GUI (Security > phpMyAdmin). And if I try to get to it via the site-admin GUI (Personal Profile > phpMyAdmin) when I enter the username/password and hit submit, it just re-prompts for username and password--but there's no error.
