Try:
label {vertical-align:middle}
input.text, select {vertical-align:middle}
This should work in your case AFAIK. But to put it in core blueprint
it need to be tested first and i haven't had time.

That ticket is a bit outdated. There have been many changes in BP till
then so that issue should be tested again.
Maybe test pages in BP should be modified to test for alignments in
cases where labels are in same row as inputs IMHO.
But this is up to core devs, i could provide code though.
