Yup, it works for me, too, also in IE8. Thanks so much. 

I re-read the CSS spec and see that a positioned element is defined as: "An
element is said to be positioned if its 'position' property has a value
other than 'static'." So, this is intended by the spec and not a browser
quirk. Learn something new all the time.
