Hi
I have been involved in an amount of discussion recently with various
clinical specialties about what they should be storing in terms of
acquired clinical data. Various types of images are particularly
topical, be they from radiology, theatres, ophthalmology or gastro for
example.

There is a pre-disposition to save whatever is acquired simply because
they can but this puts all sorts of stress on the technological
solutions that may be available. We have a single operating theatre that
is capable of producing 6Tbytes per annum. I find that the clinical
areas are really seeking some guidance and I have been progressing this
up to exec.

I am interested if anyone has done any work in this area or whether
their organisations have policy or guidance documents that are designed
to assist in the decision making process. The paediatric setting has
its own set of challenges (cardiac echos needing to be stored for 35
years as an example) but I am keen to hear from anyone on the subject

Thanks
Adrian Richards
