Hi
We are looking at our options for the delivery of enteral feeds across the
paediatric population, with neo-nates being an initial focus. This involves low
volumes delivered with great accuracy and excludes the typical style of
dedicated enteral feed pumps (like Kangaroo's etc).

Part of this involves the use of dedicated syringes and lines to prevent
feed/IV cross connection. This is a problem that does occur and typically does
not get a good outcome. This leads to the question of what type of syringe
driver to use with these dedicated syringes. We could use our normal Alaris
Asena GH's, but the enteral feed syringes are not in the syringe library. They
may be the same size as another brand that is included, but it is unacceptable
to have a mismatch between the actual syringe brand and what they pump
recognises.

Has anyone given thought to this problem to date. There are a few companies
working in the area of the dedicated syringes and sets but we are yet to see
the total package that looks like it will do the job safely.

Thanks
Adrian Richards
