Thanks Owen, I did indeed receive your HiPOT email.

 

My 10 cents worth on this topic: HiPOT voltages are DC aren't they? Any
detrimental effect on a foetus would be through capacitive coupling via
mum's body. At zero frequency, there's zero coupling. Even if the high
voltage is AC, I would say that its transmission power is tiny and incapable
of penetrating the skin level, let alone any deeper layers. Finally, there's
frequency. If the high voltage is AC and powerful (which is completely
unnecessary for insulation testing), it is not likely to be at radio
frequency and once again can't penetrate the superficial tissue. I would
therefore not lose any sleep over an expectant mother using a HiPOT. This is
just my opinion and is not backed up (or refuted) by a review of the
literature.
