A relatively simple, definitely straight forward, and very satisfying DIY project. You will need: - - new full-OBC module (the actual box with the display, also doubles as the brain) - - new full-OBC wiring harness (the part that goes from the full-OBC to the instrument cluster and few other sensors). Optionally, you could also procure: - - full-OBC turn stalk that supports a push-in-change-OBC-mode feature - - full-OBC CODE alarm horn - - something else I may be forgetting Caveats: - - if your car was not 'pre-wired' for a full-OBC, its main harness may not have a plug for full-OBC's 'CODE' feature that tells the DME not to fire injectors when the said feature is activated. Not a big deal, since 'CODE' is a deterrent for only the dumbest of car thieves. Figure about 3 hours to swap everything in/out. More if you had never before touched the instrument cluster and the center console. At least that's what I would expect to see for a '95 M3 with your miles, no mechanical/cosmetic issues and manual transmission. No idea if an automatic transmission will make your car more/less desirable for the general public. KBB, IMHO, lists unrealistically high retail prices. I have never noticed any auto journalists that they show pictures of at speed in their magazines at race tracks testing fast cars wearing helmets. Am I wrong? I think a good snell95 fullface and neck support collar should be standard equipment even for autoX. This is just the very basics of saftey equipment. I also remembered getting chided both in 1993 and 96 when I went to the Nurburgring with the BMWCCA for bringing (and wearing) a helmet and collar. It was not required and probably still is not (maybe Dan Tackett will chime in). This is a dangerous sport and it seems like some people forget that sometimes. Greetings! Been luking here for a couple of weeks and I am now ready to face this list ;-) Most all 'yall have much nicer cars then I but I wont let that stop me. In fact it took awhile to figure out that this was not an ///M only board. My name is Kendal andI am fairly new to this world of bimwads. I recently purchased an '85 735i in fairly good condition for a reasonable price. This car replaces a Toyota T-100 which was totalled after my wife hit a patch of ice and rolled it into a ditch. I dunno, since she wrecked it somehow she got to make the decision on which kind of vehicle to get as a replacement. She wanted a car. After much research I decided that a 80's ish BMW was the best bang for the bucks we had to spend. I have to admit, I have fallen in love with BMW's. I like the power, the handling and the comfort. Had I known then (when shopping) what I know know I would have pushed a little stronger for a 535is but I am happy for now with what we have. Does seem though that parts/modification/stuff is just lacking for the E23. Anyway, on to my need for some advice. There is a couple of nagging problems that I am having. First and foremost is a rough idle. I have read all the post and information I can find on this subject and have done all the things suggested. Tune up, valve timing, new vacume and fuel hoses, new Idle Stabilizer, cleaned and flushed the fuel system (twice now) and adjusted the AFM all the way closed. I still have the problem. The interesting thing here is that the idle is fine when cold, it is only after it has warmed up that it gets rough. Another related symptom (I think) is that upon excelleration there is a "flat" (by this I mean that it sorta stumbles, like a loss in torque) spot at around 2100rpm that last until about 2400rpm. OK, thats not entirely true, after adjusting the AFM the idle problem is MORE intermittent AND the "flat" spot has moved to about 2600rpm and last till about 3100rpm. This is why I think it is related. My other problem is wheels and tires. I currently have the OEM wheels which are TRX. In looking to replace I have been amazed at the limits of choices. What have you done (those with E23 or 22mm offsets)? Is there any compelling reason other then price not to stay with the TRX tire (the tire the car was designed to run with)? With 133k on the car and about 20k left on the tires I have is it really reasonable to think that I will buy any more then two sets of tires in the life left in the car or my life with it (new wheels and tires will cost about as much as two sets of TRK tires)? I guess that is enough for now. I sometimes feel like the E23 is the step child no one likes to talk about, I mean look how hard it is to track down a simple thing like a spoiler for it :-/ Speaking of which, anyone here ever put a JC chip in their E23 (the only one I can find available)? I'll admit I watch a lot of Speedvision, too much actually. They have Motor Trend TV and another show from Car & Driver. The Motor Trend TV show just did one where they took a Type R, a Celica, a Jag and an Aston to Buttonwillow (I think) and all the test drivers were wearing helmets. C&D TV did one on the Honda S2000 at Waterford Hills and the person driving was not wearing a helmet. I thought that was odd since so many cars rollover at Waterford. By the way I read somewhere that when Don crashed, the car also caught on fire so they don't know what really killed him. And in other news, Ayrton Senna's girlfriend is suing for half of his estate in a paternity suit. They are considering exhuming his body to perform a paternity test. This world I tell ya. Miles are about 159K (you would think it was half that or less to look at it or drive it) I have recently replaced the following: 1) All the chrome trim around the front and rear glass (turns brown with time) 2) All the wheel badging, the hood and trunk badging, 3) New A/C compressor (3 years ago) 4) 5 new Michelins (5,000 miles ago) This car is all original White paint (never wrecked) in amazing condition with virtually no door dings, (some light scratches on surface of paint) and an immaculate Dark navy interior (no dash cracks or upholstery rips, excellent carpet) ----A very impressive example of an early 5 with power sun roof, windows, locks, mirrors and On Board Computer. It is immaculate inside and out with ice cold A/C . As is common on all these cars, it uses a bit of oil between changes (valve stem seals and/or gasket seepage) but there is no apparent smoke. This is a great daily driver or pump up the tires and go Autocross on the cheap!! Email pictures are available on request.
