Just a reminder. The A-pillar trim may snap off on an E36, but don't try
this on an E23. the A pillar trim cannot be removed until after removing
the RF grab bar, the two LF screws in the top trim above the driver's door,
the sunshades and rear view mirror, the screws along the front lip of the
open sunroof and then the front top trim piece. Those A pillar trim pieces
have a screw underneath those other trim pieces if I remember correctly. I
had to replace my trim pieces because the previous owner had a car phone
installed and they butchered the A-pillar trim during the hands free mike
install.

Subject: [uuc] <All> Damper on Shift Lever

I did not catch the earlier posts on this topic.

The poster of the explanation that it is a damper is correct. I saw the E39 528i
lever vibrating visibly in II gear when I took that car out during the Ultimate Drive.

In my experience, however, the damper is fitted to the lever when there is some risk
of the lever actually falling out of gear, into neutral, from engine or transmission
induced vibrations. This could happen because a resonance of the gear lever itself is
excited. I saw one such damper on a diesel engined truck last year. Worked fairly
well. Shift quality was not important in that application so I cannot remember how
the vibration felt by the hand during shifts was affected.

$7800

My wife won't let me buy any more, so hopefully it's nice and one of you can

about it, I'm just passing it along to the group.

You haven't already sent in the money have you? You
should try to fight this in court. I would suggest
the National Motorist Association website as an
invaluable tool for researching facts to defend
yourself in court. Check out my website and you'll
find quite a bit of data on there about radar and
speeding tickets. For one, read the radar write ups
I've posted from emails I received from some of the
experts in the industry. I think there is some info
there to defend yourself on the basis that they can't
hit you with radar from behind (if he clocked you as
he was overtaking you). Or if he clocked you before
that (you didn't mention if you had a radar detector)
well, then, best of luck.

Fellow bimwads,

I would have gotten an aftermarket muffler as upgrade for my '93 325i, but not
enough budget. So, if anyone has a '95 M3 muffler laying around collecting
dust I'd be interested to take it (assuming we'll agree on price).

Why '95 M3 muffler? Well, last year during the NJ chapter's I had my bimmer
sharked, Josh of Eurosport did it. He said a muffler from '95 M3 would be good
if I decided to upgrade.

Email me privately, thanks.

I believe all the M-Technic package is is the 325is front and rear spoilers.
Side sills might be an option like on the 325ix.

Subject: [uuc] [E36!!] - White Guage Cluster Group Purchase

Alright folks you asked for it - and you got it! I posted recently about an
E30 white guage cluster group purchase and some E36 owners responded with a
hearty "How come us E36 guys are missing out". I've talked to my supplier
who was helping me organize the group purchase and here's what I've found
out...
White (and colored, if anybody cares) guages are available for E36's. There
are two different types. Type one has a speedo that reads from 20-140 and
type two reads on up to 160mph. The tachometers all read to 7k rpms. I
have already asked my connection if one kind is for M3's and one is not -
I'm not an E36 owner and don't know. (You all may already know depending on
speedometer markings) Here is what I can do..

It takes a group order of at least 10 guages (no matter what series they're
for) to get the group price. The price for E36er's will be slightly higher
than the E30 guages at $115/cluster instead of the E30 price of
$100/cluster. If you want a color (red, yellow, blue, or green) then it'll
cost ya another $5. These are plastic guage faces and a picture of an E30
application can be viewed at the following address...

http://members.tripod.com/bimmersteven/images/whitedash.gif

The picture tells alot more than I can explain. My friend added the
"M-Technic" sticker to his so that won't be on them when they're ordered.
Instructions for installation are included and it doesn't require any
special tools.
Email me _privately_ if you are interested in partaking in this group
purchase. I've gotten a good response so far but need 10 FOR SURE orders
before I'll start taking money. Oh yea, this is only available for US
residents.

Thanks,
Steve

Subject: [uuc] <E30> Spurious Chiming

My '91 325iX has suddenly developed a bizarre condition with the "chime"
(described variously as the "gong" or "bong" in previous threads).

I commute about 35 miles, with some stop and go conditions. After the car
was warmed up (and probably hot since I was having to stop at traffic
lights), the chime began to sound whenever I hit the brakes. The sound and
frequency of the noise were the same that you hear if you leave your key in
the ignition and open the door.

The chiming would start as soon as I pushed on the brake pedal and would
continue for as long as I had my foot on the pedal. There were a couple of
instances where the gonging continued for a bit after I took my foot off the
pedal, but in each case it only started when I touched the brake pedal.

There were no warning or check lights of any kind. All of the fluids are up
to level and all of the lights are working. Bentley has no info on the
circuits that include the chime. I will have to disconnect the chime if this
continues to preserve what is left of my sanity, but that obviously would
not be a proper fix. What is going on here? Help!

Interstate batteries are the only way to go for a replacement battery, in my
opinion. Excellent nationwide warranty, strongest battery made. Don't forget
to have them give you a vent kit with the battery. You could also really
splurge and get yourself an Optima. This is actually the ultimate battery, but
also very expensive. Good luck!!!

Scott,

You are correct in thinking that the 325is has the identical engine as the 325i. The
differences are in the interior and exterior appointments.

May not be your problem, but in my 635 occasionally the belt would slip on the
power steering & it would be very hard to turn. It was very intermittent & only
would last for a second or 2, but was very scary.. typically it would be most
prevalent when I was stopping & turning ie. parking.. VERY scary... I just
replaced the belts & it stopped happening..

Good Luck
