Anything over 150 mph for a prolonged period is seriously moving. I am
not going to say that I was nervous or scared, but I was definately
paying attention.....
The 189 on a bike was REALLY scary. I will never do that again. From
100 to 160 I rode a wheelie, all on video by the local police dept.
Fortunately this was set-up to be done and they wanted to see this in
person......no tickets involved!!!!

Thinking seriously about moving up to an M3....

Any advice on the pro/con of these 3 model years? I am aware of the
engine change, but there seem to be mixed opinions on whether it got
better or worse. Also, traction control was added in 97....again with
some mixed reviews. Anything else I should note?

I welcome any advice.

There's always two things to consider when you're dealing with shops that
mess up. Do they readily take blame and get things fixed? Are they having
to do that a lot? If they fix things that they cause that's good. If they
have to fix things a lot to take care of their errors that's not good.
Sounds like a good shop to me.

Steve Albrecht maintains that tires must be clean CLEAN before you
apply any dressing or they will turn brown. He told me he uses the
scrubbing bubbles - Dow bathroom cleaner. They do the work so you
don't have tooooooooo...
I did this last week and the scrubbing bubbles indeed turned quite
brown while doing their thing. I think I should have hit 'em 2 or 3
times though because the tires weren't especially black once they
dried. I put on some too-shiny dressing anyway and am awaiting the
eventual results.

I'll preface this by letting you know I own a 1997 M3/4.

I believe in stock form, the engine is better than the 3.0l used
in the 95. However, that said, the 95 is much more modifiable,
and there is a lot more aftermarket support for doing so.

As for traction control, I don't mind it. It has saved me a tail
slide a few times, but mostly it's a safety blanket. It kicks in
way too early, and generally removes slip that I want. I turn it
off when I autocross and do track events. It works ok when it's
borderline icy/wet, and has saved me a few countersteers.

Oh, and you can't get a 95 4 door. This may not matter to you
though.

as a rule of thumb,

each year got better from a build quaility standpoint.

But 96 up to the end, are pretty much the same I think.

I would say buy the best you can afford.

If it comes down to decided between a 95 or 96+, there are a few things to
think about. Most folks will tell you that you want a late 95.
I personally prefer driving the 95 due to the 3.0. It feels smoother, also
pulls stronger above 5k and does not run out of breath so to speak. A 3.2
feels winded at 6.5k plus and it should if you look at the intake runners.
95 does not have OBD11 which is a huge bonus in my book
I prefer the AC controls on the 95, two seperate knobs instead of digital.
My 95 M3 easily pulls away from any 96+ that I have had a chance to race.

But we are talking a small difference here. The 96 felt faster around town
due to the higher torque it has, but a very small difference.

Traction Control is a complete waste of money in my book. the few cars I
have driven with it, a decent driver can do a better job. It is for morons
that dont know proper driving technique.

Find the lowest mileage example in your fav color that you can afford and go
for it. truly great car.

Someone has a 95 charcoal black with cloth/sweude interior, no sunroof with
only 20-30k miles on it, I am waiting for that car to be offered up for
sale. 1 of maybe 5-10 like it over here.

In my search for a wagon I found this advertised
on the internet. This is from a franchise BMW
dealer:

"SLATE GREEN 4DR WAGON ITA, 12184 MILES, M-
 TRANSMISSION, 2.5L V6."

V6?
M transmission?

Anyway, if anyone knows of a clean, low mileage (ha!)
'95 wagon available I'd appreciate a quick email.

david kroth asked about tire dressing that doesn't turn brown.

It has been my experience over the past thirty some odd years that the
only time my tires turned brown after applying dressing to them was when
I did not clean the tires first. The best cleaner I have found for tires
(as well as engine rooms, etc.) is Dow bathroom cleaner. Scrub them down
really well then apply the dressing. The Dow will take the wax off your
wheels (and everything else), so watch the overspray, unless of course
you are going to rewax anyway.

Hi all,

I'm looking into my options concerning putting a trailer hitch on my '89
325is for very light towing, the square kind, is that a receiver hitch? Has
any got any suggestions about doing this, where to get the parts, doing the
install, not doing it because it's a really bad idea?

Thanks for any information.

www.hitch-web.com can sell you everything you need (hitch and trailer light
controller).

It's easy enough to do.
