The square kind is indeed a receiver hitch and they come in several major flavors. Class 1 is a flat metal ball-mount (the thing you stick into the receiver and mount the ball on (duh)) and made for really light towing. It is the least obtrusive. Class 2 is a 1" square setup, Class 3 is a 2" square setup, Class 4 has some extra stuff that distributes weight from your trailer through the towing vehicle, and some manufacturers are trying to establish Class 5 as a 2" square setup for even heavier loads. Then of course you get into goose-neck and fifth wheel setups good for pickup beds. On the other hand, 7068 has a yield of 99 ksi with similar corrosion properties, so is perhaps a better choice. Has anyone calculated what strength you'll need? If so, I'd go with the least esoteric alloy possible.
