And a number of people have asked to join..

To go to the group try: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bmwe3

You must be a Yahoo member to access the group, and your group
membership must be approved (by me for the moment..)

If you are not currently a Yahoo member - you can join. Joining
the group does not put you on any spam-mail lists, even from Yahoo.

A Yahoo group does offer us the option of polls, file libraries,
and a few other nice things, which we can use as we develop the
group interests..

You also can set your mail options to:

1. Individual emails
2. Daily digest
3. No mail - use the Yahoo website to read the messages

There are no banned subjects or topics - but flaming will not be
considered acceptable, and discussions on what color phoney HID bulbs
work the best and where to buy them will be quickly squelched.

To subscribe to the group, I believe if you are a Yahoo member,
you can do so by emailing to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Any questions - please give me a yell.

Think I'll wander over to the bimmer.org/E39 group and make an
announcement.. mebbe I'll set an age requirement (gotta be over
18 to join.. :-)

Have you checked it with a mechanical gauge?
Something I have been meaning to add to my car anyway.

I remember "pegging" a car we drove by from my friends Ford Fiesta.
Yes the same one we made high speed runs hanging off the hood of.
The guy had his high beams on. I had some snowballs all loaded up
at my feet for signs and such. Dude would not dim the beams so I
crack him square in the windshield. Yup, he turns around and begins the
chase. In and out of neighborhoods, to the following town, etc.
We get a bright idea of squeezing through a sidewalk gate at the middle
school we knew was too narrow for his truck. We sped down the walk
and through but he makes it also. He slowed down a lot though. We are close
to my uncles house where I knew I could just push the automatic garage door
opener and park next to the vette. We pull up, raise the door, pull in,
door closes almost completely and I see the guys headlights rounding
the curve. Just as my aunt comes to the back door I can hear the doorbell
ring. My uncle says it ain't my kid, blah, blah, yes I will tell the
parents, etc.
Tells us, You guys ever pull that <expletive, expletive> again and I'll kill
you
myself and we are on the way. No more chucking stuff at motorists for me.
Kids, I tell ya!

Have you changed the oil pressure sending unit? I have
changed the sending unit on EVERY BMW I have owned either
because they were leaking oil (on some engines they are
above the exhaust so the smoke will let you know they are
leaking), or because the light was flashing. I don't think
I have ever paid over $10 for one and you can change them in
a few minutes (as Duane used to say "a half beer job").

I wonder if that's where the oil is coming from on my 733i?
It drips on the exhaust header. Its a 3.5 L I think? Big six?
Does anyone know what the set-point is on a correctly
operating switch?

Thanks,

I once took two hot laps on the County Fairground's (Rocky Ford, Colorado)
horse racing track in a 56 Ford with three other guys on board. Still
remember drifting around the turns. Two laps was about all I thought I
could get away with. Left some real deep ruts in the track. Left town
right away and went back home to La Junta. Suppose the statute of
limitations has run out yet? This was in 1965 I believe.

the bandwidth and exposure. Samir.

There already is one, either there or topica, generates about zero traffic.
All it really needs is people to start sending messages.

I peek in on bimmer.org about twice a week. I don't want to follow most of
it and can't follow the stuff that might be interesting because of the crap.

Ja, ja. I want an E39 M5 Touring, but BMW won't peach. Bastards.

> counterparts;

It's a tossup to me; the E30 M3 definitely looked better than the slabsided
base E30. But the E34 M5 was, wheels aside, barely distinguishable from
any other E34 sedan.

As for the E39, I've gotten used to the front airdam on the M5, but I still
don't care that much for the baboon-butt raised area around the exhausts.

IMO the E46 sedan is better-proportioned than the E46 coupe, and that goes
for the M3 too.

> And you forgot to mention the Z1, which IMHO to this day looks better

In the US we never got that one; when traveling in Europe I've always been
surprised at how many are on the road. It's a little blocky and chunky,
but the shape has aged better than the Z3 shape.

At 8:25 AM +0100 on 6/26/01, Alex Chia commanded the electrons to
create a missive titled "[uuc] Has BMW design lost its way?":
|What do you guys think of the the recent direction of
|BMW car design?

It's appalling. Bangle is a one trick pony, and if he's going to
insist on designing cars for Honda, he should be on Honda's payroll,
not BMW's.

When the E39 came out, the first thing my wife said was "It looks
like a big 3. The old 5's looked like little 7's."

Now, my first thought when I saw the E65 was "It looks like a giant
E46." People have compared it to the Volvo S80, but the S80 is, IMHO,
far more distinctive.

As I was walking into the office today after lunch, I walked past an
E39 parked next to an E46. I had walked past the second before I
realized that it was indeed a 3er, and not a second E39.

|E46, Z3, Z8, Z9
|(uugggh!) models can't hold a candle to the classic
|and elegant 2002, E30, E28 and E24.

We're almost in agreement. I like the Z8. The E46 ci's are pretty,
though they lose a lot in any of the other variants. (M3's included,
and the convertibles are pretty dull. I'll hereby make the
blasphemous statement that the M3C is probably the worst looking BMW
in production today.)

I also think that your list of classic and elegant designs should
extend to the E34 and E38. The E24 was pretty, but really reminded me
too much of the "droopy" E23.

I love the looks of my M Coupe, but that was serendipity, not design.
Besides, it's not pretty, elegant, or handsome. It's Gloriously Ugly.
A friend of mine described it as a "rolling middle finger." ;)

|Has any body seen
|piccies of the new 7 series? Hmmmm, not sure about the
|front end treatment.

Or the sides, or the rear end treatment. The interior looks nice, and
the mirrors are cool. ;)

Nope, I think I'll hang on to my E34 and E38 until BMW replaces
Bangle, or he decides to design another car, instead of just scaling
the drawings from his last one.

Jack,

I have used D.E.C. for many years. The fit is usually very good and the finish
is o.k. As to weight, anything you put on there other than stock is lighter.
The D.E.C. unit is not as pretty as the stocker, but who really cares? Function
over fashion anyday!!! I have been using them on customers cars for quite some
time. The last one that I replaced was about $300.00 to the customer, compared
to $2650.00 for the O.E. BMW unit. No extra noise, less weight, and a trunk
load of money left over. How can one go wrong?
