To get many of the answers about Madonna in the film, watch it again, but
this time when you watch it select the directors cut.

Madonna's husband Guy Ritchie who is the director for Star talks through
the film and about how he wanted to portray Madonna, and the fun he had
with the cars and all that.

The info in on the site, you just have to watch the directors comment
version.
Same goes for all the other films.

As for the way the driver (Clive) held the shift knob, well, it is the
way you are supposed to hold it for the position he was in. Just also
happened to make for good product placement.

It finally came to me. After looking over the BMW site with the new 7, I
couldn't quite place the "look" of the I-Drive display (muted browns, soft
tones). It just hit me..... it's from an old Grundig console, tube, stereo
display. Must be a retro thing.

If you download the BMW player, the enhanced MPEGs contain a second audio
track of Director's commentary. Worth listening to as there is a lot of
information about the film.

Much of the questions and speculation I am reading here are answered just by
listening to what the Director says. Very cool stuff indeed.

For example, Guy Ritchie says that the M5 that was jumped "just stopped"
after it landed, never to run again. Yikes. He also said they had a few
others for use in filming and "B" (Brit short-speak for BMW) was afraid of
what he would do to them!

I can only speak for Germany on this, but I think it is about the same
in the rest of the EU.

In Germany, it is illegal to use radar detectors and usually the police
will confiscate and destroy them if they find them in your car. You will
get fined too.

A detector won't help you big time anyway, IMHO. Traffic violations are
usually recorded with automatic units that do not necessarily use radar,
but also e.g. induction. Laser guns are also common.

You could buy a "pre-paid" cell phone in Germany, but that won't work
anywhere else and I'm not sure you (as a foreigner) can do this easily.
A simple GSM phone with a pre-paid card and a credit of ~DM50 is ~DM
150-200. Again, roaming does not work with those phones.

It do take a while at 28.8.. I've found DL'ing them during
the day at work (only ISDN speed.. but still LOTS faster
than home) and burning them to a CD-ROM works.. :-)

Actually - my favorite so far is "The Follow".. the
female star is "to die for..", but since you're engaged,
I can understand the interest in the cars comes first :-)

Not only is it supposed to be Madonna - it is Madonna. Her
hubby produced (or was it directed?) this one. There was
a blurb about it on the telly.. I'll admit to not recognizing
her at first (and not finding the need to freeze-frame like
I do in "The Follow"), but dem's the facts... it's Madonna.

A little over a year ago, I was in a similar situation.
Then I paid through the no$e for new rear pads and rotors,
and said "surely it can't be that hard." Brakes are a
good place to start your DIYing because everything is
out there in the open where you can reach it easily.
Plus, the most exotic tool you'll need is a 5mm Allen
socket, and maybe an impact driver.

Neil,

If you have the BMW Films Player, play the movie with the director's
comments feature turned ON, and you can hear Guy Ritchie talk about making
the film and dealing with Madonna. Not sure how you can get the comments
using generic movie player software.

It also teaches you to be very thorough and never to be the one who takes
the car out for the "test drive" to see that everything is functioning
properly.

We're still wondering where ol' Jim Ladd went after we replaced his Sport
Evo 318iS rotors...

While driving back from SIGfest on Monday, I noticed
an acrid sulfur smell when on throttle. It wasn't
always perceptible, and I know that other cars (esp.
Japanese) puke out this smell. But i noticed it a lot
more often than usual.

They are highly illegal in Norway and Sweden.

Radars is not much used here ither.
In Norway laser and photoboxes are common.

Sweden you should look out for civil police cars.

An police scanner works very well in this area tho.
It's also building up systems that notify traffic
controls with sms messages to your mobile phone.

Jack:

Steve D'Gerolamo sells the DEC units. As does R***

<http://www.ultimategarage.com/catalyst.html>

The OE units can be got cheaply as well and you can,
with some effort, wangle (is this illegal in some/all
states?) a used catalyst as well as some yards will
sell them. Shop around! If this is for the iX, I
would just go stock, perhaps low-mileage used. The
